Have you ever owned a Toyota ? I'm on my third Toyota, and Toyota vehicles continue to be the best ones I've ever owned. With an amazing combination of performance, reliability, economy, and charisma, it's no wonder that Toyota is the world's third largest automotive manufacturer. The Toyota Team devotes itself to the consumer, from the drawing board to the marketplace.

Worldwide, the Toyota Motor Company was first established in 1937 as a spin-off from Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, one of the world's leading manufacturers of weaving machinery. The Toyota, or "Toyoda" as it is referred to in Japan, was headed by Sakichi Toyoda, who later became known as the "King of Inventors."

Toyota Motor Sales in North America began in October 1957 at a small dealership in Southern California . The first cars were named Toyopet Crowns, and were shipped in to the US through the port at Long Beach, CA . Over the last five decades, Toyota North America ( www.toyota.com ) has grown to boast almost 40,000 employees. Toyota sold nearly 2.5 million vehicles in North America in 2004--quite an improvement over the days of the first Toyota Crowns.

While Toyota is the fourth largest automotive manufacturer in the USA , it outsells its competitor, Honda, in Japan by a margin of 2 to 1. Toyota is by far the largest Japanese automotive manufacturer, producing more than 6 million vehicles per year, equivalent to one every six seconds. Toyota also owns and manufacturers Lexus and Scion vehicles.

The production of Toyota vehicles outside Japan began in 1959 at a small plant in Brazil, and continued with a growing network of overseas plants. Toyota quickly became dedicated to a system of mutual trust and dependence throughout the company. Production systems were improved in the late 1950s, culminating in the establishment of the Toyota Production System, which is the heart of everything Toyota manufacturing accomplishes. Today, Toyota operates over a dozen manufacturing plants in North America alone.
